Georgina Brown is an experienced General Practitioner with an Extended Role (GPwER) in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of ADHD, she is also Clinical Lead for the service.
Her main interest lies in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of adults with ADHD. This includes an emphasis on understanding the intricate connection between ADHD and the menopausal transition. And ensuring that adults with ADHD can be empowered to forge a path of success and embrace their unique and positive strengths.
Dr Brown worked in collaboration with colleagues and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) in developing a structured competency framework for Primary care Doctors and is the coauthor joint author of the published Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Framework for GPs with an extended role in ADHD. https://www.rcgp.org.uk/your-career/gp-extended-roles/ADHD-framework-introduction
Georgina is also the Programme lead and postgraduate tutor for the new Post Graduate Certificate: Neurodiversity-inclusive Healthcare. This is designed to enhance patient care and outcomes by equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide patient-centred, respectful, and effective care. This course fosters improved patient-provider relationships and, in turn, enhances healthcare outcomes for neurodivergent individuals.

She is the recent past Vice Chair of the British association for Neurodiversity and continues her professional development within the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology https://www.ecnp.eu/ whose remit is exchanging and promoting research in the field of Neuropsychopharmacology, with a commitment to ensuring that advances in the understanding of brain function and human behaviour, are translated into better treatments and enhanced public health.
As such she presently working towards an additional European qualification of ‘Specialist Expertise in ADHD’.
She holds responsibility for overseeing clinical standards within the service and is committed to ensuring the service remains current and actively evolves with the changing fields of ADHD Research. She holds an additional service role in the creation and maintenance of administrative and clinical governance systems; designed to advance and safeguard the welfare of patients by
- Incorporating a culture of excellence within the service.
- Prioritising the quality and standards of the service.
- Adhering to the benchmarks established by external regulatory and quality improvement entities, such as NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
- Creating an environment which supports Clinicians in surpassing their professional standards
- Ensuring all Patients received assessment, diagnosis and management by experienced Specialists consistent with the guidance published by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence
She has a robust foundation in Clinical Governance and is also an Expert Witness for the General Medical Council (which serves as the regulatory body for doctors. In this role, she evaluates the care standards provided by doctors throughout the United Kingdom) and held the position of Medical Adviser to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) from 2013 to 2021. (The SPSO is entrusted with evaluating and providing insights on ultimate-stage complaints regarding public service entities in Scotland).
Over the years Dr Brown has contributed to both NHS and Private service development and service improvements in both a direct and advisory role including committee representation with the British Medical Association and subsequent committees. This includes chairing the BMA Equality and Diversity committee, representing Doctors on the Scottish council, leading the greater Glasgow and Clyde Scottish Deprivation Group, contributing to process Development within NHS24 and additional roles in Local NHS Children’s Service Development.
As the principal trainer for ADHD Direct Nurse practitioners, her responsibilities include developing tailored training focusing on areas encompassing assessment, treatment, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Additionally, the development and leadership of a bespoke training programme for GPs to expand their roles in ADHD care, providing mentorship, and establishing best practices in primary care settings to attain the standards expected of a GPwER ADHD
