Meet Lauren Cowan
Lauren Cowan is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at ADHD Direct, with extensive clinical experience supporting both adults and children with ADHD across different stages of assessment, treatment and ongoing care.
Lauren’s Clinical Experience
Throughout her nursing career, Lauren has worked in a range of clinical and leadership roles, giving her a broad understanding not only of direct patient care, but also of service development, multidisciplinary working and the practical challenges involved in supporting people with complex and changing needs. Within ADHD Direct, her clinical work includes medication management and reviews, Transfer of Care, ongoing treatment support and helping individuals and families develop a clearer understanding of ADHD and the ways in which it can affect day-to-day functioning.
Lauren also provides ADHD Coaching for adults, with plans to expand this service in the future to include children and young people.
Why Clinical Experience Matters in ADHD Coaching
A key part of our approach at ADHD Direct is that ADHD coaching should be delivered by clinicians who do more than understand coaching techniques alone. We believe there is particular value in coaches having genuine clinical experience of ADHD, understanding how symptoms present in real life, and being familiar with the medical, psychological and functional difficulties that can accompany the condition.

Lauren brings exactly this combination of experience. As an experienced ADHD clinician, she understands the challenges that can arise around executive functioning, emotional regulation, medication, routines, relationships, education, employment and family life. This means that coaching can be genuinely ADHD-informed and tailored to the individual, rather than relying on generic productivity or wellbeing strategies that may not take account of how ADHD actually affects a person.
Lauren’s ADHD Coaching Approach
Her coaching approach is warm, collaborative, strengths-based and practical. She recognises that ADHD presents differently in every individual and that strategies need to be realistic, personalised and sustainable. The aim is not simply to tell someone what they “should” be doing, but to help them understand what is getting in the way, identify what works for their own brain and circumstances, and develop practical strategies that can be incorporated into everyday life.
Coaching Principles and Frameworks
Lauren’s coaching is informed by recognised coaching principles and frameworks, including the GROW model – Goal, Reality, Options and Way Forward – alongside goal-setting, solution-focused and strengths-based approaches, reflective questioning, active listening and collaborative action planning.
These approaches help individuals to identify what they would like to change, understand the barriers they are currently experiencing, consider realistic options and develop achievable strategies that work with, rather than against, their ADHD.
What Can ADHD Coaching Support With?
Coaching can support a wide range of ADHD-related challenges, including organisation, time management, procrastination, task initiation, motivation, planning and prioritisation, emotional regulation, executive functioning, maintaining routines, confidence, managing overwhelm and developing greater self-understanding.
A Supportive and Non-Judgemental Approach
Lauren aims to provide a supportive and non-judgemental space where individuals can better understand their ADHD, recognise their strengths and develop practical tools that can make a meaningful and sustainable difference to everyday life.
ADHD Coaching at ADHD Direct
At ADHD Direct, we see Lauren’s combination of advanced clinical practice, leadership experience and ADHD-specific knowledge as an important part of the coaching service we want to provide: coaching delivered by an experienced clinician who understands ADHD not only in theory, but through years of working directly with adults, children and families affected by it.
