People often ask: “What is the difference between Vyvanse and Elvanse?”

The answer is simple: they contain the same active medication, lisdexamfetamine.

In the UK, this medication is usually known by the brand name Elvanse. In some other countries, including the United States, it is known as Vyvanse. This can feel confusing, especially if you are reading online forums, watching videos, or joining ADHD support groups where people from different countries are talking about their medication.

Someone may say they take Vyvanse, while someone else says they take Elvanse — but they may be talking about the same type of ADHD medication.

Lisdexamfetamine is a long-acting stimulant medication. It is known as a “prodrug”, which means the body converts it into its active form after it has been taken.

So, Vyvanse and Elvanse are not rival medications. They are more like twins with different passports.

The important thing is to know the name used in your country and to take your medication exactly as prescribed.
