Submitting assignments is scary for everyone, and when you have ADHD it can feel especially easy to feel all over the place, especially when it comes to actually clicking the submit button.

The reason I’m talking about this today is twofold. One is we are in exam season. Two is that quite literally a few seconds ago I handed in one of my assignments. And I noticed something funny about my submission process.

I had everything read hours and hours ago. I had reread it, checked for typos, done everything, and I knew it was done. But instead of submitting, my brain started to race at the mere thought of it. So I repeated the same process again and again, and at the end of it my piece was exactly the same. The only difference was that I had spent three hours checking it not to make it better, but to make my thoughts about it better.

And it is a tricky one, because is that necessarily a bad thing? Logically, my piece is the same, my mark will be the same, and I’ve spent half the day adding nothing to my goals. But emotionally, I feel much clearer having handed it in.

So maybe it isn’t always a bad thing.
