Patient Participation 2026

On this post:

Thank you for sharing your views

Thank you to everyone who completed our 2026 Patient Participation Survey. We received up to 82 responses from patients, parents, carers and others who know our service. Your feedback included generous praise, constructive criticism and practical ideas about how we can make ADHD Direct easier to use.

The clearest message was that people value our clinical expertise and speed of access, but some find the administrative journey too complicated. We are using this feedback to improve how we communicate, how people contact us and how we explain appointments and reviews.

What you valued

Clinician expertise was the most frequently chosen valuable part of our service, followed by speed of access and lifetime care and reviews. Many people also told us that receiving a diagnosis, accessing treatment and being understood had made a meaningful difference.

“My diagnosis and treatment has made a huge positive difference to my life.”

“We are always super impressed by the expertise and care we have received.”

You said the contact and booking journey can be confusing

We did and are doing: We are developing a clearer Contact Us page with separate routes for general questions, medication questions and appointment changes. The page will retain helpful FAQs and make our two-working-day response expectation clear. We are also reviewing appointment names and explanations so it is easier to choose the right option.

You said there are too many emails and important links can be hard to find

We did and are doing: Our medication-review letters now state when the next review is due, and patients receive a reminder to book. We will review our automated emails and forms, remove unnecessary duplication and look at repeating essential joining links in reminders so patients do not have to search through older messages.

You said it can be difficult to speak to a person when something goes wrong

We are doing: We are reviewing how queries are escalated when a standard written response does not resolve the problem. This includes clearer ownership by a named team member and when a callback or clinician review is needed.

You said accuracy and continuity matter

We did and are doing: We have reinforced our internal process for reporting administrative, clinical and system errors so that problems can be reviewed and learning can be shared. We will also explore how to make continuity with the same clinician easier where appointment availability allows.

You asked for more support and practical information

We are doing: We will improve signposting to the support already available, including coaching, counselling, webinars and parent or carer support. We will also review demand for peer groups and for information on autism and AuDHD, women’s health and hormonal changes, sleep, behaviour and practical self-management strategies.

What happens next

Not every suggestion can be introduced immediately, and some changes need clinical, operational or technical review. However, we will use this survey as a baseline, monitor the agreed actions and report back on progress. Our priorities are to protect the clinical quality people value while making every step of the service clearer, more personal and easier to navigate.

Thank you again to everyone who took the time to respond. Your feedback helps us learn and improve.
