Going back off my last blog about wishing to be neurotypical, I think a big part of that wish comes from how frustrated I get at myself over certain things, especially when I lose things. There’s a part of me that shrivels up and dies whenever I make an expensive purchase or buy something new, because I know how hard it is for me to not lose or break it.
I have a MacBook that’s my pride and joy, I’ve had it two years now, and the other day it fell off my chair. I’d lazily placed it there without realising, and of course, it fell. My heart sank into my stomach. Yes, it’s expensive, but more than that, this MacBook has been proof, for two years now, that I don’t break or lose everything, that I can look after something. If it broke, some part of me would have taken it as proof that I really am useless. Which, of course, isn’t the case.
Recently I’ve lost more pairs of sunglasses than I can count. I couldn’t tell you how many Ray-Bans I’ve bought, but I can tell you how many I’ll be buying from now on: zero. I have various systems in place to try my hardest not to lose things, but the honest truth is there’s no happy ending here, I do always end up losing things, especially when I travel. So I suppose my question for you, dear reader: do you have anything in place to stop yourself losing your valuable belongings?
