People with ADHD are often brilliant researchers. Many patients and families come to appointments having read forums, watched videos, joined groups, compared side effects, and possibly created a medication spreadsheet at 2am.
We genuinely love this level of interest. It shows people are engaged, curious and trying to understand their treatment.
However, the internet can be a tricky place. ADHD medication information online is often partly correct, but it may miss important details. For example, someone might say “methylphenidate did not work for me”, but there are many different methylphenidate preparations, and they do not all release into the body in the same way.
This is where clinical guidance helps. Our role is not to dismiss what you have read. It is to help make sense of it, fill in the gaps, correct misunderstandings, and explain what the information means for you or your child.
ADHD treatment is not just about knowing medication names.
It is about understanding how they work, how long they last, what side effects to watch for, and how they fit into real life.
