I’ll be the first to admit I really don’t like this heat, and the reason might sound a bit strange. It mostly comes down to there being too many feelings involved. When it’s cold, all I feel is cold, simple as that. But in this heat I feel dehydrated, sweaty, smelly, and frankly a bit burnt, all at once, like my body can’t decide which complaint to lead with.
This is one of those things people with ADHD can probably relate to more than your average neurotypical person. I’ve got plenty of friends who dislike the heat too, but they don’t seem to mind it nearly as much as I do, or as much as my other ADHD friends do.
The other day most of my friends were out drinking and celebrating the long awaited arrival of British summer. Meanwhile I stayed inside under my fan until 9pm, when it finally felt ‘cool enough’ to do a food shop. I assumed I was the only one doing something this ridiculous, but when I mentioned it to a friend who also has ADHD, it turned out they’d done the exact same thing.
It’s funny how these little overlaps show up. It isn’t the end of the world or anything, but it’s definitely something worth noting.
